Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Takara (she/her) is a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Black Alder. Having led communications and digital strategies for various electoral, decarceral, and issue-based campaigns, she is passionate about building narrative power for social change.
She formerly served as Communications Director for Dream Defenders, a Black-woman-led social justice organization advancing a new vision of safety in the state of Florida.
Having also served as a Digital Organizing Manager, Takara has created and executed digital campaigns that reached millions of people online across several issue areas. She is well-versed in the development of digital advertising strategy, SMS strategy, email marketing, social media strategy, and more.
Prior to her time at Dream Defenders, she served in communications-related roles at The Ohio State University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, West Virginia Innocence Project, and West Virginia University’s Office of University Relations.
Takara holds a BA in philosophy and public relations, an MA in communications studies, and an MS in data marketing communications.
