Data and diversity big topics at INTEGRATE 2018
Nearly 150 marketing communications professionals from across the country descended upon Morgantown to learn new strategies and gain inspiration from industry experts during the College of Media’s 2018 INTEGRATE conference, August 2-4.
The conference kicked off with an opening networking reception and motivational keynote talk featuring award-winning advertising creative Jim Copacino.
Conference general sessions started early the next morning with Jocelyn Allen, co-founder and CEO of the Allen Lewis Agency. Allen, a diversity communications expert, will be teaching a new course, “Diversity and Inclusion in IMC,” for the Integrated Marketing Communications master’s program this fall.
As data-driven insights and campaigns become the industry standard, it’s no surprise that data was a favorite topic at INTEGRATE for attendees. Highlights included a session on engaging audiences with mobile marketing from College of Media alumnus Bob Bentz (BSJ, 1981), president of the top digital marketing agency Purplegator, and Jon Lorenzini’s session on how to present data and confusing concepts to non-technical audiences and keep them interested. Lorenzini, a former marketing science manager at Facebook, recently founded Crabbr, a travel planning platform designed to create customized itineraries.
Headlining the conference was nationally-known humorist, author and speaker, Karith Foster. Foster, a diversity engagement specialist, gave her keynote address during the Friday evening dinner at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center. She shared amusing and emotional anecdotes to show how we can be more actively aware of and open to people and experiences that fall outside our individual norms.
INTEGRATE heads to Houston, next. The conference is November 1-3 at Magnolia Houston and includes an optional bus trip to Austin for the WVU vs. Texas football game and alumni tailgate. Visit integrate.wvu.edu for more details about the conference including speaker information and a schedule.
